Alfie Teaser Trailer
This film is mainly aimed people 15 and above due to content as there is a lot of scenes containing a sexual nature. At the start of the trailer sees a few quick shots that pan across American skyscrapers, and the main character talking to the camera. There are also words that appear subtly within the shots that show how women feel towards him. Following that there are many quick shots of various different women of various different cultures. This can raise various questions, such like:
1.Who are all the women?
2.Why are they all looking at him?
3.What are all the words meant to mean?

This trailer links most to my teaser trailer, mainly because it is based on it, but the costume and props are like the ones that will be used in my trailer. In my teaser trailer the main character's costumes go from smart black suits, like at the start of the trailer, and casual clothing, like when he's in the bar. It also links well due to the amount of love interests that he has. Unlike this trailer , our Nick, will obviously not drive a limo and will not have the intimisy that Alfie has, but as for the storyline they will be quite similar. The different shots and the editing in between the women in this teaser, shows that in the film he will have several different women, ranging from all ages and cultures, which will be very much like my teaser trailer, however like I mentioned before the main focus in similarity is the costumes and the way in which Nick presents himself with the charm and the witt.

Quantum of Solace Teaser Trailer

This teaser trailer looks like it is aimed at mainly menm due to the content of violence and crashes etc, however could also appeal to women due to the main character. It looks like it would also be aimed at maybe the age range of 25+, due to content and the storyline, it may be a bit complex for the younger generation.
At the start of the trailer there are many 'dark' scenes, this either being lighting or the costumes. This shows that the characters in the film are all very suspicious and getting up to 'illegal' business deals and such like. This can raise various questions, such like
1.Why is everyone smartly dressed?
2.Why is there only one woman in the opening scenes?
3.Why does it go from dark scenes to a scene in daylight?

This trailer mainly links well with the idea for my own teaser trailer though the costumes. In my teaser tralier the main character's costumes go from smart black suits, like at the start of the trailer, and casual clothing, like when he gets out of the car. It also links well due the love interests that he has. Although in this teaser there is only one woman, in my trailer there are several, therefore a very big difference. Unlike this trailer as well there are no crashes or violence, as 'Nick' falls more into a comical genre. The different shots and the editing in this teaser shows that the film is very fast and action packed and therefore is very different in terms genre, however like I mentioned before the main focus in similarity is the costumes.

Final Double Page Spread with Commentary

Final Double Page Spread with Commentary
The first thing to mention on this Double Page Spread (DPS) would be the slugs at the tops of the pages. These are been made in a reverse manner, by which I mean that they are opposites, so one has a white background with orange writing and the other has an orange background with white writing. I think that this works well because it makes them stand out and consumers will notice them, especially because they are block colours. In other magazines there are sometimes just the bands name written in the top corner and this doesn't really stand out as it isn't really visible.

The main body of the writing, the interview itself, has also been reversed so one side is written in white and the other in orange. I have kept this colour theme again because I think that it works really well to have the same colour running throughout the three pieces of work. Another thing that has been put in the reverse colours is the pull quotes. I quite like the pull quote on the left hand page because it overlaps the trousers of the model and you are able to see them underneath the writing. This was accomplished by using Adobe Photoshop and magic wanding around it and deleting the background.

I have also put the pages number the name of the magazine, in the same font that is used on the masthead, at the bottom of the pages and have also reversed the colours of them so that they are white and orange on the opposing pages. I think that by doing this throughout the double page, makes it look more interesting to the consumer and would make them want to read it.

I decided that I wanted to have two separate images of the artists, to show consumers that there was two separate interviews and I also decided that I wanted them both to be in the middle so consumers could recognise that they were a band. I think that it was quite good having them dress differently, in their own clothes/not a particular wardrobe, because consumers can feel like they relate to them and it shows that even though they might be becoming famous they are still ordinary guys with normal lives.

Final Contents Page with Commentary

Final Contents Page with Commentary
With the contents page I have kept the same colour theme as the cover and have use the models as well. The title of 'Contents' has been written in the same font as that of the masthead on the cover which I think works well.

Like that of my cover I have also used a variety of different fonts some of which came from DaFont.com. The 'Fresh Faces' has kept that same font that was used on the cover and I think that this works well because it keeps and continuous run of fonts from the cover to the contents. The colour of it has been kept in the orange like it has been in the other drafts but I didn't think that it needed changing because it wasn't that close to the writing on the t-shirt. 'The Kooks' has been changed into a scripted font just to make it stand out from the text underneath. All the page numbers have been made bold so that they stand out and consumers can easily see where the article are.

One of the cover stories has been mentioned at the top of the page and stands out as being a cover story as it says in a bigger font 'Front Cover'. I think that this works well because it lets consumers know that the features on the cover are quite important and interesting to read.

Final Front Cover with Commentary

Front Cover with Commentary
From the first couple of drafts of my cover the main thing that I have changed was the main image. Orginally this was the guitar holding model, but has been changed due to the quality of the image. This image was very quixilated and therefore was found that it would look better if it was smaller. The other image was bigger and therefore would have benefited from beginning bigger. After making the guitar holding model smaller I decided that it would then be good idea to have white box surrounding him as this would make him stand out so consumers would be able to see that he was part of the band that was being featured.

I feel that this cover does forfil most conventions of other magazines on the market. There are three main house colours that are used which are black, white and orange. This choice of colours does go against the results that I found out from my questionnaire, as orange wasn't a popular colour to be used. The reason that this changed was because of colour use on the main models top. I thought that it would be good idea to use a colour that was used in the background as it would show a link between the clothing of the models and and the colour text that was being used. As my target audience is people that are interested in rock music I think the colours that have been chosen are very good and relate well to other magazines of this genre for example, Uncut.

I have used a number of various fonts on this cover well. In the first few drafts there was only two or three but now there is five. A few of these fonts have come from DaFont.com and have chosen because they suit the piece of text that has been written in them. For example the 'Fresh Faces' has been written in a scripted in font because it compliments what has been written. This type of font is quite fresh and clean therefore linking both of them. This has also changed in colour from the other drafts because it was felt that have 'Fresh Faces' written in orange and having it close to the 'West London' on the t-shirt wouldn't look good so therefore that has been changed to white so that, that writing stands apart.

If I was too approach the task again I dont think I would have to worry about having more cover lines because I think that I have enough but I do think that maybe I could try having some more images that were of good quality and maybe trying following more conventions of other magazines and try having the main image lie over the masthead as this could make the cover look a bit more interesting, however with doing this I would have to be careful that I didn't cover up everything so consumers wouldn't be able to recognise the brand.

At the tops of both pages I will have slugs reading "Interview, five minute rant". They will be in reverse colours, so one side will orange on white and the other white on orange.
In this plan the main images will be on the inside of the page and their interviews will be on the outside. At the bottom of the images will be a write up about each artist. The interviews on each page may be in the oppsite colours, like the slugs, to keep in theme with the double page.
The slugs will be written in the Airstream font to in theme with the rest of the magazine. The artists names will appear at the side of them and will be in the Berlin Sans font, they will also be in opposite colours. The interview will be written in Arial font as I think that this will be easy to read and because there is probably going to be a lot of writing thwe font should be very basic, so consumers aren't put of.
This layout may change depending on the length of the interviews, but all the fonts and colours should stay the same.

The contents at the top of the page will written in Airstream font. I have picked this font because I wanted it to run thorughout my magazine.
Down the left hand side will be all the features that will come up in the magazine. These will most likely be in one of the fonts that has been used on the cover to keep this running through as well.
On the right side will be the page numbers for the featrues and this will also be written in the same fonts. Dotted around the page will be pictures that are going to illustrate what the features are.

I'm not entirely sure about this layout and how it will work and look so it may change during the course of the development of the contents page.

The masthead will read 'Rocky Roads' and will written in Airstream font. I have picked this font because I think that it most goes well for the genre of music I have chosen and had quite a flowing look.
Down the left hand side of the cover will be the kickers and the explanatory lines accompanyed by an miage illustrasting the feature.
There will also be a main image that will take up all the cover and the other features will placed on top of it.
The barcode and issue number have still to be decided on where they are going, but they are most likely to go underneath the masthead or at the bottom of the page in the right hand corner.
The fonts that will used on the front cover are Arial and Berlin Sans. I think that it is a good idea to only use a limited amount of fonts becasue otheriwse the page will become to cluttered and complex to read and consumers won't be that interested in purchasing it.

DPS Presentation

DPS Presentation
This presentation is basically talks about my DPS analysis but looks at it from a more visual prespective. There aren't many notes on it as I did most of the talking.
I think that this was good practise for the final presentation that will be filmed, and I think that there are quite a few things that can be improved, one of them being my confidence when talking to people.

DPS Analysis x2

DPS Analysis
This analysis is looking at two double page spreads in two different magazines. It talks about the language that is used in them both and any similarites and differences between them.

Masthead Research

Masthead Research
I already knew what font I wanted for my front cover and so I only had to decide what the magazine was to be called.
I came up with five different mastheads that all had 'Rock' mentioned in them. I thought that this would be a good idea as the theme of the music magazine was rock music. I thought that by having the genre of music in the masthead it would make it more easier for consumers to identify the type of magazine it was and therefore they could see if they were interested in it before purchasing it.

Front Cover Analysis x2

This piece was created at the start of the project and is looking at two different magazines and analysing the different features that appear in them.

Questionnaire

These are the questions that I asked a random group of people as I wanted to see who would buy my magazine and the types of things that they would want to see in it.
I asked them about the colours they would prefer and the types of articles or reviews they would like to see.
I think that by doing this I got to see what consumers would want and if they would beinterested in the magazine.
